Inspiration Shoot – The Grey Lady

29 Sep

We can’t believe it’s almost October here on island. It’s been a fast, fun filled summer with all things wedding. Today, we wanted to share a project that brought some of Nantucket’s finest wedding vendors together  back in May (that seems so long ago). This shoot was done for Wellwed magazine (a must read if you are getting married here on island). As you’ll see in the video, this was a collective effort chock full of the tiniest details. From chargers meant to evoke the grey shingled homes here on Nantucket, to amazing letter press invitations that were over the top, to custom knit mini sweaters, and even ‘snowflakes’ to hang off the tablescape. Add in faux fur chair covers on a wintry-like grey day in May and you have the perfect backdrop to host a formal affair.

A big thank you to Meg Simone Videography for capturing all the details. The only thing we vendors wished is that Meg would have kept filming when the heavens opened up (yup, we had a total downpour as the very last photo of us gathered around the table was taken. Meg, being the team player that she is, put the camera down to help break down the table. Imagine what mayhem and giggles she could have captured. It was all pretty funny, and very soggy).

Bridal Luncheon Inspiration

11 Jul

We’ve had some pretty amazing weather here on Nantucket recently. The sun has been out, everything is in full bloom and it looks like quintessential Nantucket around town.    We came across this fun cocktail for those of you planning a bridal luncheon.  When we read it, we thought it was perfect for these dog days of summer.  Try serving up these cocktails for your best gals!

The Juice of A few Flowers

  • 1/2 cup freshly squeezed orange juice (2 oranges)
  • 1/2 cup freshly squeezed pink grapefruit juice (1 grapefruit)
  • 1/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (1 lemon)
  • 1/4 cup freshly squeezed lime juice (2 limes)
  • 1 cup good vodka (recommended: Grey Goose or Finlandia), optional
  • Extra lemon juice
  • Granulated sugar
  • Fresh mint sprigs

Directions

Combine the orange juice, grapefruit juice, lemon juice, lime juice, and vodka, if using, in a pitcher. Dip the rim of 6 martini glasses first in a dish with lemon juice and then a dish with sugar. Set aside to dry.

When ready to serve, place ice cubes in a cocktail shaker, add the cocktail mixture to fill the shaker 3/4 full, and shake for about 30 seconds. It’s important to shake for a full 30 seconds to get the drink very cold and dilute it slightly with the ice. Pour into the sugared martini glasses and garnish with a sprig of mint. Continue filling the shaker with ice and cocktail mixture until all the drinks are poured. Serve ice cold.

Brides and Blooms

27 Jun

It was a busy weekend on Nantucket with weddings.  Everywhere you turned, there seemed to be a pretty girl in a white dress holding a beautiful bouquet.  We noticed a lot of peonies walking around the cobblestone streets this weekend so we thought it would be fun to look in to the meaning of peonies:

With a recorded history that dates back thousands of years, it’s not surprising that even the mythology surrounding the origin of the peony has multiple versions.  One legend has it that the peony is named after Paeon, a physician to the gods, who received the flower on Mount Olympus from the mother of Apollo.  And another tells the story of that same physician who was “saved” from the fate of dying as other mortals by being turned into the flower we know today as the peony.

The traditional floral symbol of China, the state flower of Indiana, and the 12th wedding anniversary flower, peonies are known as the flower of riches and honor.  With their lush, full, rounded bloom, peonies embody romance and prosperity and are regarded as an omen of good fortune and a happy marriage.

Stylish Lobster ‘Bakes

20 Jun

With  4th of July celebrations on the horizon we thought it was time to talk lobster!

Lobsters are a way of life in New England and nearly a summer time staple on Nantucket. Many couples kick of their wedding weekends with a clambake or lobster dinner. Some go for the formal lobster dinner at their wedding and some opt for the casual clambake on the beach. Either way you need the proper gear! We spotted these adorable “Lobsters in Love” bibs on the Bird and Banner website. Festive, fun and practical! What more could you ask for.

We saw this inspiration board over on Snippet and Ink and it fits our island style to a T!  Don’t you love that crisp green and white combo?  Having your flowers girls feet dressed in green is a great way to add a little pop of color as they make their way down the aisle.
