Inspiration Shoot – The Grey Lady

29 Sep

We can’t believe it’s almost October here on island. It’s been a fast, fun filled summer with all things wedding. Today, we wanted to share a project that brought some of Nantucket’s finest wedding vendors together  back in May (that seems so long ago). This shoot was done for Wellwed magazine (a must read if you are getting married here on island). As you’ll see in the video, this was a collective effort chock full of the tiniest details. From chargers meant to evoke the grey shingled homes here on Nantucket, to amazing letter press invitations that were over the top, to custom knit mini sweaters, and even ‘snowflakes’ to hang off the tablescape. Add in faux fur chair covers on a wintry-like grey day in May and you have the perfect backdrop to host a formal affair.

A big thank you to Meg Simone Videography for capturing all the details. The only thing we vendors wished is that Meg would have kept filming when the heavens opened up (yup, we had a total downpour as the very last photo of us gathered around the table was taken. Meg, being the team player that she is, put the camera down to help break down the table. Imagine what mayhem and giggles she could have captured. It was all pretty funny, and very soggy).

Griffin-vites Save the Dates!

2 Jun

This preppy, coastal company serves up Nantucket style in just the right way! We love artist Sara Fitzgerald O’Brien’s custom watercolor work and her creativity for her clients never ends! We asked her what she had been working on this spring and here is what she shared with us:

It’s that time of year!  Save-the-date orders are flying out the door around here like nobody’s business!  I always love working on custom illustrations… and this season, in particular, we’ve got some great designs in the works!  These cards play such an important role in the wedding stationery suite, giving guests a taste of what’s to come (along with the ‘who, what, when & where’ of the celebration!)  Some clients choose to maintain a consistent look throughout their paper process (mirroring the theme of their save-the-date when designing their invitation, etc.), while others choose to play it cool and casual in the beginning, only to get more formal with the invites.  Either way, it works–  always a nice reflection of our couples– and their big day!  Here’s a look at a few of our recent designs… such a variety!

Thanks Sara for sharing your creativity with us! Check out more of her work online by Clicking Here!

Hydragea Escort Table Display

2 May

We are back today with another amazing creation from Griffin-vites Watercolor Stationery.  A bride having a Sconset wedding this past September asked Sarah to incorporate hydrangeas into her escort table signage.  Didn’t this come out beautifully!  A different way to let your guests know where they are sitting – this is great for outdoor weddings where there may be a breeze.

Make-Up Tips from Beauty By The Sea

22 Apr

Beauty By the Sea is a fantastic make-up and product store located on Centre Street in the heart of Nantucket’s downtown. Owner Lizzy Wiggin is the islands go to gal for all things make-up and of course many a brides wedding day look. We asked her to share with us her number one tip for getting a great make-up look for your wedding day and here is what she had to say.

“Mattifying primer or anything to make you look rested, oil free but still hydrated is key!”

Tinted moisturizer is what Lizzy uses as opposed to a full coverage foundation. It is lighter and has spf 25 in it so it helps protect you during all those beach portraits. Then she applies the concealer to cover up any dark circles, red spots or highlights. This will all make you look rested, healthy, yet still dewy. The goal is to start with a nice fresh clean palette then apply your color! Flawless!

After their make-up trial brides always say they feel like they have nothing on! You want to look and feel like YOU but on your best day ever.

To check out the products Lizzy talks about or to book her for your wedding day make-up visit the store at 29 Centre Street or e-mail lizzielegg@msn.com.

Vintage Inspired Nantucket

7 Apr

Being that Nantucket is an old school whaling town there is a ton of history in the island air. From the Nantucket baskets, wooden sailboats and all the vintage pieces you can really feel as if you are stepping back in time. We thought we would honor this history with a simple inspiration board that ties it all together. You can have that vintage island feeling at your wedding by adding in a splash here and there.
